A nice adventure it was to compose and mix for this documentary now playing in many teaters accross Québec. The music themes were almost all terneray to remind the movement of the train. I had also had the pleasure to work with an amazing musician: Josiane Laberge on the violin. Click here to watch an interview I did about the music in the documentary.

Que de plaisir à composer la musique de ce film. J’ai eu la chance d’enregistrer Sheila Hannigan au violoncelle et Mélanie Bélair au violon au Studio Planet. Ici pour les billets.

It was a unique pleasure and privilege to do the sound recording of this faboulous project.
All dressed in black and impeccably synchronized, we know them as an anonymous collective. So who are the men and women of the Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal? Jean-Nicolas Orhon filmed the orchestra’s members for a year while they prepared for their first European tour, led by conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin. The filmmaker melts into the background, observing their rehearsals, interaction and incredibly precise work as closely as possible. Documenting the adventure becomes a way to create more nuanced portraits of the artists and the passion they share. An original and patient look behind the scenes, revealing the intense work that goes into perfectly harmonious concerts performed with apparent ease.

I had a great pleasure working on this enigmatic experimental movie with Denys Desjardins.
An unusual film dedicated to the maker of La Jetée, the most legendary of unknown filmmakers. With his experimental, evocative, poetic documentaries, Chris Marker (1921-2012) was one of the true innovators of the cinematic essay. A “Marker mystery” obsessive, Syned Sindrajed has made an enigmatic film in which a woman explores the nooks and crannies of her own memory, where she finds none other than the mysterious director. An inspired tribute, filmed around the world.

2 films for which I did the music will be screen at the FIFA 2016. One is Reverence of Jean-Nicolas Orhon and the other is La Maison et la tortue of Jo Légaré. For creating the music of Jean-Nicolas’s film, I used samples of Monarqs straching the soot on a plate.
The process of creating a work that combines art and science. Steven Spazuk and Danielle Delhaes collected thousands of traces of monarch butterflies in their natural habitat using soot on cardboard. The film follows the trail of these endangered insects from Mexico to Quebec. The pixels have been cut and assembled into a unique image that makes us aware of the precariousness of animal and plant life.

Forces Tranquilles, is a short documentary, produced by the NFB, for which I did the music for, scoring mainly a post-rock ambiant track and a military inspired melody played by the flutist Marie-Hélène Breault. It will be presented this sunday at the RVCQ. To read the blog of the director Sophie Dupuis, follow this link (french only).

The War of the Blueberries is a drama-comedy set in the lush rolling landscape of East Canada. The movie tells the story of Eva, a vigorous woman in her seventies, leading a simple and peaceful life in her native countryside, until the day a new neighbor arrives. For years, Eva has been happily gathering blueberries in her secret patch. Her tasty blueberry upside-down cakes have become her pride. The arrival of Gabrielle, her young new neighbor from the city, is disrupting Eva’s daily life when Gabrielle sets up a blueberry stand, unknowingly stealing the blueberries from Eva’s patch. Eva may be old, but she has not yet had her last word.
I had the pleasure of doing all the audio for the film, sound recording, mixing and music. The film was released november 6th 2015 in many theaters in Québec before the feature presentation Le Garagiste de Renée Beaulieu.
